1.3 Million New York Households Have 60 Days or Greater of Unpaid Energy Utility Bills!

This Means that 1 in 5 New Yorkers are in danger of losing electric service now, and could be receiving service termination letters for gas/heat also, as early as mid-April, with largest tidal wave of shutoffs in New York history occurring between late May and early June.

PULP and our partners at AARP New York have been deeply concerned about the impact of this onrushing tidal wave of shutoffs since November of 2021, when we sent a letter with nine other statewide groups to Governor Hochul asking her to resolve this massive utility arrears in the 2022-2023 Budget. We sent a follow-up letter in January of 2022, which we followed with an appeal to the New York State Legislature’s Speaker of the Assembly and Majority Leader of the Senate.

This past week, PULP sent a letter to the State Legislature, with follow-ups to go to local elected officials and others. See below.

Feel free to share our social media graphics widely to educate other New Yorkers about the crisis facing almost 1.3million households and the simple 3-part plan PULP and AARP are proposing to avert multi-generational debt afflicting approximately 1 in 5 New Yorkers.
