Times Union — Time Warner Cable wants to make it easier to shut off your home telephone service if you fail to pay your bill, a leading consumer advocacy group says.

New York City-based Time Warner Cable, which has 1 million telephone customers in New York state, asked state regulators back in May if rules regarding shutting off home telephone service could be loosened for the company.

For instance, state rules prohibit telephone companies from shutting off service to customers after 3 p.m. on Fridays and on weekends.
