Syracuse Post Standard: National Grid households pay extra when they buy energy from outside marketers

SYRACUSE, N.Y. The Post-Standard — For more than a decade, state regulators and the utilities they oversee have urged customers to switch energy suppliers to promote competition. Several utilities have state-sanctioned programs offering customers lower bills for two months if they sign with a new electric or gas provider.

“Want to save 7 percent off your energy supply costs for two months — risk-free?” asks the website of National Grid. “We can help!”
